The Republic of Tajikistan presented its First Trade Policy Review to the World Trade Organization (WTO)

        On December 6-8, 2021, in Geneva, Switzerland, the first meetings of the Trade Policy Review of the Republic of Tajikistan within the framework of the WTO were held with the participation of an official delegation headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin and representatives from 164 participating countries.
         Chairman of the Committee on Food Security Faizullozoda M.U., Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Abdurakhmonzoda A.S., First Deputy Director of the Agency "Tajikstandart" Davlatzoda R., First Deputy Head of the Customs Service Tursunzoda A.Kh., Deputy Head of the Strategy Planning Department and reforms Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Mukaddazoda F. and others accompanied.
          Zavkizoda Z. A. emphasized that the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, respected Emomali Rahmon, identified the strengthening of export potential, diversification of exports and simplification of trade procedures as the priorities of the Government's economic policy in the field of trade.
          At the same time, Zavkizoda Z.A. noted that after joining the WTO, as a result of the measures taken by the government of the country, despite the influence of external factors related to the economic and financial crisis, trade disputes, economic sanctions and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, exports doubled, the production of industrial goods increased by 1.8 times, agricultural products by 2.1 times and agriculture by 1.3 times, as well as for the first time in the experience of the country "Single window" to simplify export-import and transit operations, as well as how the Tajikistan Trade Portal was introduced.
The head of the official delegation provided detailed information on the achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan in the economic sphere of the country for almost 9 years of membership in the WTO and answered more than 156 questions and comments from member countries, including Russia, the USA, the EU, China, Canada, India, Iceland, Singapore, Argentina, Ukraine, Dominican Republic, Turkey and Kazakhstan.
           The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Botswana to the WTO and the Trade policy of the Republic of Tajikistan was discussed at these meetings for the first time. During its accession to the WTO, Tajikistan actively participated in global trade initiatives, achieving an average annual economic growth of 7% and an average annual trade growth of 10%.
           Representatives of member countries such as the Russian Federation, the United States, the European Union, the People's Republic of China, India, Turkey, Singapore, Argentina, Canada, Kazakhstan, Iceland, Ukraine and the Dominican Republic highly appreciated the achievements of Tajikistan over 30 years of independence, assessed the effectiveness of the WTO and described fulfillment of Tajikistan's obligations to the WTO. In conclusion, the Member States wished success and prosperity to Tajikistan for the further development of trade and participation in the international trade system.
